With reference to Mr. Harcourt's Despatch No. 241 of 14 the 17th. September, 1914, I have the honour to inform you that Lo Che a Foreman Forester in the employ of this Government has been permitted to retire at the expiration of 25 years service, and has requested that his compassionate allowance may be commuted under clause 19 of the Pension Minute.

The allowance in question amounts to 860 per annum

and as this man is certified by the Superintendent of the Govern- -ment Civil Hospital to be in good physical condition with a pro- -bability of living for 10 years I recommend that the allowance be commuted as for 5 years.
